Andrew Denton Breakfast Show (1997 - 2002) A breakfast radio program on Sydney's Triple M also featuring Amanda Keller and Dave Gibson. The breakfast show included the popular ‘Musical Challenge’ segment where Denton challenged musical guests to perform songs, such as Jimmy Barnes singing ABBA's hit ‘Dancing Queen’ and Willie Nelson performing Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Also the home of 'The House From Hell' - Big Brother before Big Brother existed (and with a sense of humour)
DENTON (1994 - 1995) Andrew hosted and co-produced his own late night, live chat show for the seven network. It also featured the 'Chase For Skase' and bought Amanda Keller and Anthony Morgan to well-deserved late-night fare. World Series Debating
(1993) Andrew co-produced and featured in this series for ABC TV. It showcased many of Australia’s leading performers and thinkers, debating such important topics, such as “That Elections Are A Waste Of Time” and “That Laughter is Better Than Sex”.
The Topic of Cancer (1993) An ABC TV documentary special about a group of 13 teenagers from the cancer support organisation, CanTeen. Daring to find humour where others see death, Andrew Denton and [The Money or The Gun] team pitches its tent in the middle of a workshop weekend for CANTEEN, a national support group for teenagers with cancer. There they discover the shocking truth about this most feared of diseases: that it is possible to have cancer and still lead a life. Issues such as chemotherapy, baldness, pain, treatment by peers and family and also experiences with the media are discussed.
Live and Sweaty (1991 - 1992) A live to air show about Australia’s obsession with sport, for people smart enough to understand the game but dumb enough to think it is important. Saw the launch of Celebrity Ten Pin Bowling and Australia's alternative Olympic anthem - 'I Don't Care As Long As We Beat New Zealand'. The Money or The Gun An ABC TV series that dealt with different issues each week and featured more than 25 versions of the Led Zeppelin classic ‘Stairway To Heaven’. Each episode was based on a significant theme, with Denton interviewing a number of people as well as conducting vox pops on the street. Significant episodes include "Guns-The Musical" and the award-winning episode on disabilities, "The Year of the Patronising Bastard" (which picked up a United Nations Media Peace Prize). Blah Blah Blah (1988) Late night, youth talk show broadcast on ABC TV. Mentioned in Parliament many times as an example of “what’s wrong with this country”. Thankfully, it was. The show began the careers of many Australian performers. With its late night time slot, it was able to get away with a lot more adult humour and content than many other shows of the era. A running joke at the beginning of the series was that Denton was the 'work experience host' filling in while they were waiting for the real star of the show to arrive. He finally did make it, five minutes from the end of the final episode. The show also featured the legendary live performance by Lubricated Goat singing 'In The Raw', stark naked, for a show about censorship.
